Day 3: Feelin' Dank

Today's blog will be an effort between all of us, as we tell the tale of our Friday here in Baden Baden!

Angie: I'll start us off since this was my bright idea. We'll see how it goes! LOL! As you can tell by the lulz, I am feeling SO MUCH BETTER today! Thank the Lordt. I was prepared to just be sick and holed up in the hotel room for a few more days! Thankfully, it didn't come to that and I woke up with a little but of an appetite and just in time to go downstairs for Hotel Römerhof (the drama and time that just went into me trying to make an "o" with an umlaut was tremendous...) Anyway, we went downstairs for the hotel breakfast...

Did you know Dostoyevsky had a gambling problem and loved to gamble at Baden Baden's casino?

(shhh, tell NO ONE about this super secret staircase)

Secret, ancient Roman remains??

Laura: Breakfast was once again a nice continental time. From croissants to yogurt to black tea, we ate up before a long walk exploring the town. We started heading towards Caracalla Spa and ended up on the beautiful Hare's Leap Circular Trail. Of the many highlights, we learned about Dostoyevsky's gambling habit, took a super secret staircase, and walked through a sculpture park with (what Jeff would describe) a PS1 alligator. My personal favorite though was a sculpture of a wolf because I love wolves - AWOOOOOO! We also stumbled on Ivy Bart, a statue on an old church covered with red ivy. Finally, we made it back down to our hotel in time for my daily nap after a bad nights sleep due to some loud Americans. Come on guys!

The window on this spa place had cartoon pinup women painted on it?

There he is. The statue. The legend. IVY BART!!

He is a crinkled origami friend-shaped!

Ryan: I spent Laura's naptime continuing my Deutsch studies, ever preparing for the next social interaction where I can test my fledgling German. Gilmore Girls was our latest TV background noise, which has been a requirement, especially since it had subtitles for my German learning. After Laura's nap, we headed to the local library's book sale. I acquired two Gänsehaut Bücher (German Goosebump books)  a callback to my reading youth, along with another children's book. All four of a us took a walk through the Lichtentaler Allee, filled with relaxing sights, bridges, ducks, and a Trinkenhall containing several artistic portraits. While waiting for our dinner destination to open, we journeyed into the local Woolworth's. Uns Linnemanens, needed various things and we walked away with a gift for our sweet cat (a großer maus) among many other small items. After taking our small haul back to our hotel room, we headed to meet the Lewisenens for dinner.

Jeff: Dinner was a travail for me, but that does happen sometimes. We hit up the Hugo Sushi Bar & Asian Cuisine, after waiting for a few moments for the clock to strike 17:30 when restaurants open in this town. Angie had some phở, Ryan had teriyaki chicken, Laura had ramen, while I had appetizers (gyoza, yakitori) and miso soup (which had the option for tofu, salmon, or shrimp - all served with Dill). My body decided that the miso soup with salmon was a bad idea and decided to rebel. No fun. Everyone else's food was great, or so I'm told. Afterwards, we grabbed some drinks from a local carry-out and headed back to the hotel to plan tomorrow's activities. Now, back to Angie for the finale.

What is this, an Aston Martin for ants?!

Cold is shit?!

Angie: And here you have it! The result of all of our storytelling as we bring to you the story of our Friday in Baden Baden! It was the best day we've all had so far as we are all healthy, getting healthier, and it wasn't raining. We can't wait to see what wonderful days we have ahead of us here in Germany!
